Haus on the Hill

Baldwin HIlls

Marking our entry point into high-end design, Sanchez is an addition/remodel that revamped the entire exterior/interior look of the project. Sanchez was, at first, an outdated 1980s house with three bedrooms, one bath, and one awkward kitchen. The interior was very closed off and private, while the exterior lacked care and treatment. Despite this, Barnhaus saw that the overrun exterior had large potential for the project given it’s steep slope. This house wanted to be more open to the outdoors and advantageous of the beautiful views. We moved one of the bedrooms to the addition side to provide enough space for a master bathroom to the master. The dining area was opened up to the outside by adding a large accordion door to the front that, when open, blurred the lines between interior and exterior; bringing Los Angeles into the home. The north side kitchen walls were also removed and the layout was reconfigured to open it up to the dining area and front yard. The addition not only housed a bedroom and extra kitchen utilities, but also a large living area that opened up to the dining and kitchen areas. The facade was given large fixed windows that flanked each side of the accordion door to provide beautiful views of the Los Angeles Skyline. The exterior was repainted and the landscape was cleaned up to give it a modern modern aesthetic. Instead of being closed off and isolated, studio BarnHaus created an open layout with more family space that brings the outdoors in.
